(ROCKWALL, TX – July 23, 2019) Rockwall Police Chief Kirk Riggs will retire on July 31, 2019 after 13 years of service to Rockwall and more than 40 combined years in law enforcement.  Kirk Riggs spent 25 years at the City of Farmers Branch and rose to become the Deputy Chief before being hired to serve as the Assistant Chief of the Rockwall Police Department in 2006.  He became the Chief of Police in 2015.  Since joining the City, the department has grown from 62 officers and 18 civilian personnel to 85 officers and 24 civilian employees today.  The Rockwall Clergy and Police Partnership, Police Explorer Program, expansion of the School Resource Officer program, and implementation of the Guardian Program are some of the many contributions to community-oriented policing accomplished under the direction of Chief Riggs.

“It has been a privilege to serve the citizens of this great city and an honor to lead an outstanding group of men and women in the Rockwall Police Department,” said Chief Kirk Riggs.

“The City appreciates the services of Chief Riggs.  He has been instrumental in solidifying the Police Department’s relationships with the business community, including his leadership role on the Rockwall Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and has emphasized community service as a member of the Board for the Children’s Advocacy Center for Rockwall County,” said Rick Crowley, City Manager.

Assistant Chief Kirk Aldridge will lead the Police Department until a new Chief of Police is appointed.  Chief Riggs will serve in an advisory capacity to the City for six months after retiring as Chief.
