Dr. Courtney Gober, candidate for Rockwall ISD Board of Trustees, Place 6, shared the following press release with Blue Ribbon News regarding his candidacy:
Education:
Dr. Courtney Gober earned a Bachelor of Art degree from Morehouse College (Atlanta, GA) in History and Sociology, a Master of Art degree from The University of Michigan in Education, and his Doctorate from The University of North Texas in Education Administration and Curriculum & Instruction.
Educational Experience:
Dr. Gober taught social studies for four years, a campus administrator for 15 years and a district administrator for the last two years. Dr. Gober served as Principal of Rockwall High School from 2013-2018 and is currently the Assistant Superintendent for IB Schools in San Antonio, Texas.* Dr. Gober has also served as an Instructor for Collin College, a motivational speaker and an educational consultant.
Residency:
5-year resident of Rockwall; 19-year resident of Texas.
* In July of 2018, Dr. Gober accepted an assistant superintendent position in San Antonio ISD, he has commuted from Rockwall for the last two years and is excited to start his new career working for the non-profit, Texas Council for International Studies (TCIS), where he will be the Chief Academic Officer and will work with schools across the state to develop their International Baccalaureate (IB) programs. This new position allows him to work from home and gives the flexibility to fully serve Rockwall ISD as a school board trustee (place 6).
Family:
Courtney and his wife, Devyn, have two children who are actively involved in RISD FFA, Student Council and Athletics.
Awards:
Courtney Gober was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa as an undergraduate. He has been the recipient of many awards, most notably: Diversity Leadership Award, Texas PTA Honorary Lifetime Member, Honorary Rockwall FFA Member, Teacher of the Year (2001), and 2018 Principal of the Year (State Finalist). Dr. Gober currently serves on the SW Regional College Board® Council, he is a former board member for Texas IB Schools (TIBS), Collin College Teacher Advisory Board and City of Wylie Library Advisory Board.
“My goal is to keep Rockwall ISD a ‘destination district’ and work with our community and school leaders to develop a comprehensive plan for our rapid growth. As a 20-year student-centered educator, I plan to continue to engage families, students and staff on how to best serve all stakeholders of our district, while ensuring our schools are safe, innovative, engaging and fiscally responsible.”
Submitted press release. The 2020 Rockwall ISD Board of Trustees election will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2020. Three-year terms up for election are Place 6, presently held by Leigh Plagens and Place 7, presently held by Stephanie Adams.
