(ROCKWALL, TX – May 23, 2020) It is with great sadness that we share news of Father George Patrick Monaghan, pastor of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Rockwall and a priest of the Diocese of Dallas for 40 years, who died May 18, two days after his 67th birthday.
Visitation will be from 11am-2pm Sunday, May 24 at Sparkman Funeral Home & Cremation Services and 3 to 7pm at Our Lady of The Lake Catholic Church in Rockwall, with a vigil to follow at 7pm. The funeral mass will be at 10am Monday at Our Lady of the Lake, followed by graveside services at 1pm at Restland Cemetery in Dallas.
In 2010 Father George was assigned to Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Rockwall where he served Rockwall County for ten years. His leadership and positive impact was felt throughout our community.
Father George sent the congregation a video homily the day before his death. Unbeknownst to him, his final words to his flock were, “stay humble and kind.” To the high school seniors, he recited “Oh the Places you will go” almost as a good-bye to those he left behind.
