Staple Goods Market opens this Saturday in Heath

Cooking with Ease by Melissa Tate: Standard Service to present Fall Market

HEATH, TX (Oct. 6, 2020) As most of you know, Sept. 26 wrapped up the 13th year of Rockwall Farmers Market. Evan and I were absolutely honored to have our Tate Farms Market Wagon accepted as one of the vendors this year. We spent every Saturday since June selling our grass fed, grass finished beef, local honey, steak seasonings, jams, jellies and on special occasions…Mimi’s Strawberry Cake.

We stayed busy at the markets but we made a point on Labor Day weekend to take a moment and shop all the other vendors. We decided to make an entire meal, start to finish, with food from the market vendors.

The meal, which you see pictured, was beyond amazing. One for the books, for sure. We started with fresh salad greens and Homemade Italian Dressing from Urban Goat Greens accompanied by warm, toasted bread from Bravado Biscuit Company, topped with Garlic Smoked Gouda Dip from The Amazing Dip Company.

The main course was thick cut pork chops from 413 Farm, ribeyes from Tate Farms (both seasoned with Tate Farms Steak Shake), and veggies from State 28 Farm seasoned with more Steak Shake and Italian Dressing.

For dessert, a beautifully, decadent Lemon Blueberry Poundcake from Raised in a Southern Kitchen. Each and every bite a reminder that these products were sourced from local farmers, bakers and artisans.

On Saturday, Oct. 10, Standard Service in Heath will open its long-awaited Staple Goods Market. Each vendor from our Labor Day meal and many more will be part of the weekly market.

Staple Goods Market has been a dream of owner, Elias Pope, since long before the concept was approved in 2016. The market will be open every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. through Nov. 28. The kick-off market on Oct. 10 will host nearly 20 vendors while the weekly markets will have eight vendors including a handful of staple vendors like Tate Farms, State 28 Farms, Bonafide Betties Pie Co and Bravado Biscuit Co, rotating others bi-weekly. All vendors are local and purveyors of fine, fresh foods.

Standard Service is located at 4240 Ridge Road in Heath. You do not have to be a guest of the restaurant to patronize the market. Staple Goods Market’s mission is to create a new way of bringing families and the community together while supplying goods from local vendors you may very well know. Market-goers are welcome to enjoy a drink from the bar as they stroll the market, whether waiting on their table for brunch or just popping in to see what game is on the big screen. Be sure to pop by the Tate Farms Market Wagon to say hi and tell me all about the goodies you find while you’re there.
