Rockwall Reads marks 6th year of summer reading for Rockwall ISD

ROCKWALL, TX (June 21, 2021) Library Media Specialists were recently at Howard Dobbs Elementary School and Herman Utley Middle School distributing books to students participating in the summer programs and community members attending the summer lunch program.

Approximately 520 children at Dobbs and 200 children at Utley were able to choose popular new books to take home.

The summer of 2021 is Rockwall Reads sixth year distributing books to children in Rockwall County.

Rockwall Reads is an initiative organized by the Library Media Specialists of Rockwall ISD to get books into the hands of children who may not be able to go to the public library.  Children may keep the books or pass them on to a friend.  Over the years, Rockwall Reads has distributed books at the sites of the summer meals program, apartment complexes, Lake Rockwall Estates and the community parks.  Last year, due to the pandemic, Rockwall Reads distributed books as a drive-thru during summer lunch pick-ups.

Rockwall Reads has been funded through grants from Walmart, Amica, Delta Kappa Gamma and through various school and community book drives.
