ROCKWALL, TX (Oct. 4, 2021) Hanby Insurance is one of the oldest insurance companies in Rockwall County, serving North Texas communities for over 80 years. But this year, their office has a fresh new look.
This summer Hanby Insurance Owner Erin Neill purchased her entire office building at 107 N Goliad, a historic building in Downtown Rockwall originally built in 1920. She renovated the interior with all new floors, walls, and décor.
When Neill bought Hanby in 2011, they had two locations – one in Mesquite and one in Rockwall. But as everyone’s workflow shifted during the pandemic, she decided to consolidate the two offices.
“When COVID started, we started seeing a shift in people not wanting to come into the office as much and feeling more comfortable doing things over the phone,” Erin said. “Our landlord in Mesquite was wanting to sell our building there, and around the same time our landlord here in Rockwall was also ready to sell this building. So it worked out to where we were able to buy the building here and renovate it, while still keeping to the charm of the downtown area.”
Erin is a 20-year resident of Rockwall. She got her start in insurance while in college and accepted her first job at a local Nationwide Insurance agency. She worked there for 10 years until she started her first insurance agency in 2009 and became the owner of Hanby insurance in 2011.
Erin is also well-versed in Rockwall history. She is certified as a Rockwall County Pioneer by the Rockwall County Genealogical Society, and she has an ancestor named Franklin Sullivan who was appointed Postmaster of the area known today as Rockwall County in 1859.
“It feels really awesome to own a building that’s a piece of Rockwall County’s history,” Erin said. “I’m really excited to have all of my team in one place, to be able to have more face-to-face interaction with them. It will also help us to better serve our customers.”
Hanby covers all things insurance: home and auto; specialty insurance for things like class cars, motorcycles, golf carts and ATVs; life insurance; commercial insurance – general liability, commercial property, workers compensation; and bonds – title, notary, construction project bonds.
“We’re your one-stop shop for insurance needs. We do pretty much everything except health insurance.”
Erin said that growing up, she originally dreamed of becoming a teacher. Now that she finds herself in insurance, she enjoys teaching people about their policies.
“I like being able to educate people on what their insurance is for, how it works, and letting them know the coverage that they need,” Erin said. “We love to help people save money when it comes to their insurance, but there really is a lot more to insurance than just that. Insurance can protect everything that you have – if you do it the right way.”
Erin started her agency from scratch here in Rockwall, without any clients initially.
“It was a challenge because I had to learn marketing,” Erin said. “I’m a little bit of an introvert, so I had to get outside of my comfort zone in order to succeed. The Rockwall community has been great to us from the beginning. We were able to grow in Rockwall through relationships with the Chamber of Commerce and other networking groups, and we continue to grow as the community grows. Rockwall’s a great town to do business!”
Erin is passionate about staying involved in the Rockwall community. She has been in involved in Soroptimist Rockwall for the past six years and has served on the board of Meals on Wheels for the past five years.
“I remember when I was a little girl and I would go stay with my grandmother and great aunt during the summertime, they would take me with them to deliver Meals on Wheels. So having the opportunity to serve on the board of Meals on Wheels is something that’s very important to me.”
