Hawk on the Water: Rockwall-Heath scholastic sailor qualifies for National Championship

HEATH, TX (Oct. 26, 2021) Aston Atherton, a senior at Rockwall-Heath High School and Rush Creek sailor, has won the South Eastern Interscholastic Association (SEISA) single handed district qualifier.  And he did so with a nearly perfect score – eight wins out of nine races at Houston Yacht Club,  October 23-24.

Atherton, along with RHHS, Coach Paul Barns from Rush Creek Yacht Club in Heath, advance to the ILCA 7 single handed, ISSA Cressy National Championship, held at Key Biscayne, Florida on December 17-19, 2021.

SEISA is the southeastern district (one of seven districts) of the Interscholastic Sailing Association (ISSA) covering ten states from Florida’s panhandle to Colorado.  Atherton is the Texas RS Areo 9 State Champion and currently leads the ILCA 7 or Standard rig, Texas Laser District 15, as well as the Texas Youth Sailing Association series.  The tall young sailor also competed in Gdynia Poland this year in the Under 21 Laser World Championships.
