ROCKWALL/HEATH, TX (March 28, 2022) The Rockwall and Rockwall-Heath High School Best Buddies chapters recently held a joint Field Day at Wilkerson-Sanders Memorial Stadium. The students divided up in groups to play frisbee, volleyball, soccer and boccee ball and rounded out the event with a giant kickball game followed by a water fight.
“We had so much fun with our buddies and meeting students in the Rockwall chapter. I hope the two schools will continue this event and make it a tradition,” said RHHS Best Buddies President Ruby Knox.
The RHS Best Buddies president Sarah North added, “It was a great event! I loved seeing all the smiles on our buddies faces.”
Best Buddies is the world’s largest organization dedicated to ending the social, physical and economic isolation of the 200 million people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). For individuals within this community, Best Buddies helps them form meaningful friendships with their peers, secure successful jobs, live independently, improve public speaking, self-advocacy and communications skills, and feel valued by society. At the high school level, Best Buddies fosters one-to-one friendships between high school students with and without IDD. In this time of heightened social and emotional development that can be difficult even for teenagers without IDD, the Best Buddies High Schools program helps break through social barriers at an important time in a young person’s life.
