ROCKWALL, TX (Dec. 12, 2022) Last Saturday, December 10th, the Rockwall ISD Administration Building Gymnasium was transformed into Santa’s Workshop. The Rockwall community graciously donated the largest number of toys and gift cards to children that we have ever seen. The 46th Annual Helping Hands Toy Drive Distribution was the biggest EVER!
Members of the community were able to donate toys from Nov. 11th to December 5th. The week of the toy drive, several groups, families, and individuals spent their time organizing these brand new, donated toys into piles based on age. Children ages 0-18 were able to receive gifts of all shapes and sizes, stocking stuffers, books, bikes, and MORE!
The day of the distribution, hundreds of volunteers showed up and helped 1,200 children receive gifts, that’s about 400 families! Registered clients show up during their designated time slot and are guided through the gymnasium by a volunteer. While in the gym, they will pick out several toys and stocking stuffers for each of their children while the volunteer carries their bag of selected toys for them. Finally, they had the option of free gift wrapping, and received a box of food via the Mobile Food Pantry program of Helping Hands.
Over 9,000 toys were distributed as well as $37,000 in gift cards and this is just the beginning. Helping Hands will be continuing to distribute toys, Dec. 14th – Dec 21st. Updated numbers will be announced after the holidays.
“This is where we really strive, and this community really strives, to make sure that every kid that’s in need in this community has a good Christmas…This just goes back to the generosity of this community. Believing in helping others but also believing in what Helping Hands is doing,” said Jon Bailey, President and CEO of Helping Hands.
