ROCKWALL, TX (May 21, 2024) – The Rockwall community and citizens from surrounding areas came together in a spectacular display of celebration at the annual Founder’s Day Festival held Saturday, May 18th. This year’s festival was especially significant as Rockwall celebrated its 170th anniversary. The event, which has become a beloved tradition in the area, marked its 20th year with the largest attendance yet, drawing an estimated 7,500 people. Rockwall welcomed residents and visitors for a day of family-friendly fun, live music, delicious food, and community spirit.
The festival grounds buzzed with excitement as families enjoyed bounce houses, yard games, interactive animal shows, and more. Later in the evening, music enthusiasts gathered at the main stage to dance along with Mike Ryan and headliner, the Eli Young Band. Both of whom are local Texas bands who are succeeding on stages all across the nation and the world!
One of the highlights of the festival was the mouthwatering selection of food offered by a variety of food trucks. Attendees were able to explore the historic downtown area through a short trolley ride, enjoy scenic views of the waterfront in Harry Myers Park, and experience the warmth and hospitality of the local community.
“It was incredibly exciting to see the tremendous turnout for this year’s Founder’s Day. It had to be our biggest yet, with a larger and more enthusiastic crowd than ever before. The applause from out-of-town visitors was especially heartwarming. I am deeply grateful to our citizens for showcasing why Rockwall is the Free Live Music Capital of North Texas. A big thanks to Rockwall Parks and Recreation for flawlessly executing yet another fantastic event!” said Mayor Trace Johannesen.
“I am incredibly proud of the Parks and Recreation team and their collaboration with all city staff to make this year’s Founder’s Day one of the best ever. The City of Rockwall truly came together as a team to ensure the event’s success,” said Travis E. Sales, Director of Parks, Recreation and Animal Services.
As the sun set on another memorable Founder’s Day Festival, organizers expressed their gratitude and excitement for the future. Plans are already underway for next year’s event, promising even more fun, excitement, and community spirit.
