Royse City police arrest RCHS student for threat to school

ROYSE CITY, TX (May 3, 2024) On Thursday, May 2, 2024, around 5:30 pm, the Royse City Police Department received information that a 17-year-old student at Royse City High School had posted a credible threat to Royse City High School on social media.

The threat was serious in nature and an investigation into the matter was immediately initiated. An arrest warrant for the subject was issued and officers from the Royse City Police Department and the Rockwall County Sheriff’s Office responded to the subject’s residence in Rockwall County. The subject was arrested without incident.

Royse City High School is located in the Hunt County portion of Royse City so the subject was transported to the Hunt County Detention Center. The subject has been charged with violation of the Texas Education Code Section 37.125 Exhibition, Use or Threat of Exhibition or Use of Firearms which is a Class A Misdemeanor. The Royse City Police Department immediately notified the Royse City ISD Administration when we became aware of the credible threat.

When reports of this nature are made, we work closely with our partners at Royse City ISD to quickly and thoroughly investigate any possible threat. The safety and security of our campuses is our highest priority. The Royse City Police Department believes this to be an isolated incident. There were no other subjects involved.

We are extremely grateful to those who came forward to report the threat to law enforcement. To help ease concerns of staff, students and parents, the Royse City Police Department will have an increased presence around the campus tomorrow, but again we believe the threat to the school has been safely resolved. There is no further information at this time.
