Judges include Annie Foster, a teaching artist at the Creative Art Center of Dallas and member of the Nasher Sculpture Center Education Board and the St. Mathew’s Cathedral Arts Guild; Kay Wyne, an award-winning artist whose artwork has been featured in numerous magazines including Dallas Business Journal, Western Art Collector, Southwest Art, American Art Collector, Plein Air, and Riding Magazine; and Rockwall Mayor Kevin Fowler, a long-time patron of the arts.
There will be seven categories of artwork on display: Oil, Watercolor, Acrylic, Photography/Digital Art, Drawing, Sculpture, and Mixed Media. This year, $2700 in prize money will be awarded, including Best of Show ($500); 1st place in each category ($200); 2nd place in each category ($100); and the coveted People’s Choice Award ($100) – which represents your opportunity to overrule the judges by voting for the piece you find most inspiring.
RAL has been promoting fine art in our community for over two decades. Founded in 1999, RAL serves local artists and Rockwall residents by arranging opportunities for community art displays, hosting artist demos, promoting workshops, funding scholarships, and staffing the ArtReach program.
Each year RAL awards the Tom Collins Scholarship to a graduating high school senior pursuing an art degree in college. For more information on this scholarship, visit rockwallartleague.org.
In addition, RAL members have been engaged in working with mentally, emotionally, or physically challenged adults through ArtReach since its inception in 2012. Art as therapy is a proven avenue for developing creative expression and promoting healing. A selection of artwork from the ArtReach program will be on display at the Fine Art Show.
