Silent memorial of flags pays tribute to 9/11 lives lost

ROCKWALL, TX (Sept. 9, 2025) – The Rockwall County Historical Foundation (RCHF) has planted 2,977 American flags on its museum grounds at Harry Myers Community Park (901 E. Washington) to honor the lives lost in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The community is invited to visit the display as a silent memorial for the 9/11 Day of Remembrance.

The tribute will remain in place through Sunday, Sept. 14, allowing residents to stop by at their convenience and pay respects.

The memorial effort was led by RCHF Board member Dalton Tasset, with support from fellow Board member Darlene McCallum Singleton and volunteers Tim Griffin and Kindsay Carter.

“As we plant 2,977 flags this September 11th, each one represents a name, a story, a life stolen too soon. Every flag is someone’s parent, child, or friend, urging us to pause and reflect while calling us to live boldly as stewards of American freedom and liberty, ensuring their sacrifice fuels our unwavering commitment to never forget 9/11,” said Tasset.
