Rockwall County Honors Fallen Officers During Police Memorial Commemoration

ROCKWALL, TX (May 14, 2026) – On the morning of May 14, a gathering of law enforcement agencies across Rockwall County came together with heavy hearts to honor the brave officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. The Rockwall County Law Enforcement Police Officer Memorial Commemoration, held at Rest Haven Funeral Home in Rockwall, served as a touching tribute to their courage and dedication. This year, we mourn the loss of 38 fallen officers, four of whom are from Texas, a stark reminder of the risks these heroes face each day.

In 2025, the tragic loss of 111 federal, state, county, municipal, and U.S. territory law enforcement officers in the line of duty marked a 25% decrease from the 148 who died in 2024. National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund CEO Bill Alexander expressed a mixture of sadness and hope, stating, “While we grieve the loss of even one officer, the encouraging decline in fatalities suggests that many agencies are increasingly adopting best practices to ensure the safety and well-being of those who bravely protect our communities.”

Chief Kirk Aldridge of the Royse City Police Department welcomed everyone with sincere appreciation, emphasizing that National Police Week is a time for us to recognize and honor those who selflessly gave their lives for the safety and protection of others.

The solemn ceremony began with a heartfelt prayer by Chaplain Stephen Grays of the Royse City Police Department. The Rockwall County Combined Honor Guard presented the colors, as attendees stood together and recited the Pledge of Allegiance, united in respect and gratitude.

Rockwall County District Attorney Kenda Culpepper and Sheriff Terry Garrett shared their profound admiration for all law enforcement officers and support staff, recognizing their tireless commitment to serving and safeguarding the citizens of the county.

As the names of each fallen Texas officer were read, a single bell tolled, marking their sacrifice with reverence. The haunting notes of “Taps,” played by Charles Aldridge, brought a moment of reflection and remembrance. The ceremony concluded with a prayer by Rockwall Police Department Chaplain Brad Bassett, a heartfelt wish for the continued safety of all officers and strength for the families left behind.
