ROCKWALL, TX (July 2, 2026) – The City of Rockwall is proud to announce longtime community volunteer and patriot Marilyn King as the Grand Marshal of the 2026 Independence Day Parade on Saturday, July 4.
A Rockwall resident since 1996, King has dedicated decades to serving the community through volunteerism, civic engagement, and a deep commitment to preserving America’s history and values. As a member of the Rock Wall Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), she has been a passionate advocate for educating residents about the U.S. Constitution. Each year, she celebrates Constitution Week by distributing American flags and copies of the Constitution, helping inspire a greater appreciation for the freedoms and liberties enjoyed by all Americans.
King’s devotion to patriotism is deeply rooted in her family’s military service. Her late husband, Lieutenant Colonel John King, served for decades as a pilot in the U.S. Air Force. His legacy lives on in Rockwall through John King Boulevard, named in his honor after his service on City Council.
Throughout the years, King has also made a lasting impact through her service to the community. She received the Larry Parks Service Award in 2014 for her dedication to the YMCA and was recognized by the Rockwall City Council as a Hometown Hero in 2021 for her continued commitment to serving others.
Joining King in the parade will be members of the Rock Wall Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), which was established in Rockwall in 1978. The DAR is a national service organization whose members can trace their lineage to a patriot who contributed to America’s fight for independence. Through volunteer service, members honor the legacy of those patriots by promoting historic preservation, education, and patriotism. The Rock Wall Chapter actively supports veterans and military families, local schools, conservation efforts, and numerous community service projects. The chapter also awards an annual scholarship to a Rockwall County high school student and has received statewide recognition for its outstanding commitment to service.
The City of Rockwall’s Independence Day Parade begins at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 4, and is one of the community’s favorite traditions, bringing together thousands of residents to celebrate our nation’s 250th birthday with patriotic floats, community organizations, and local leaders.
