(Rockwall – November 26, 2012) A Texas Reads Grant of $3,000 was recently awarded to the Rockwall County Library’s Reading for Adults program. Gloria Bishop, Adult Literacy Coordinator, and Marcine McCulley, Rockwall County Library Director, accepted the award.
The grant will help provide for General Education Diploma Preparation, English language Acquisition, and U.S. Citizenship Preparation – made possible by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services and Texas State Library and Archives Commission.
The Rockwall County Library program provides free educational support in all three areas to the community. The RFA program has approximately 285 adult students from 52 countries and 75 local volunteer tutors. The program is primarily based in the Rockwall County Library and the First United Methodist Church, which provides classroom space.
The Rockwall County Reading for Adults program offers classes throughout the year with morning classes Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to noon and evening classes Tuesday and Thursday from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
