Lake Pointe Medical Center awarded Cigna Center of Excellence designations

(ROWLETT-February 28, 2013) Lake Pointe Medical Center recently received four Cigna Center of Excellence designations. Cigna’s program evaluates and recognizes hospitals with positive patient outcomes and high cost-efficiency measures. Participating hospitals meeting specific quality and cost-efficiency criteria are designated as a COE by procedure and condition.

LPMC received COE designations in the following areas:  chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD); general cardiac medical (heart attack, heart failure, irregular heartbeat); stroke; and vaginal delivery.

“The employees and staff at LPMC work hard every day to bring the highest quality of care to our patients and their families,” said Brett Lee, LPMC’s chief executive officer. “In 2012 we celebrated our 25^th anniversary and planned to make it our best year ever. These designations help prove we met that goal. I am extremely humbled by our team for their continuous devotion to providing exceptional care to our patients.”

The COE program is designed to meet the ever-growing consumer demand for tools and information on patient outcomes and cost efficiency. This year, Cigna updated and expanded its designation methodology. In addition, Cigna has enhanced quality designations to indicate superior patient outcomes based on treatment effectiveness for 31 different surgical procedures and medical conditions. The patient outcomes data use hospitals’ Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Hospital Compare measures, Leapfrog Patient Safety Measures, mortality and complication rates in addition to other evidence-based protocol metrics.

LPMC created a Commitment to Quality initiative designed to enhance the overall quality, control and productivity of its care delivery process. It introduces a series of targeted initiatives in the areas of quality of care and patient safety, nursing practice, medical staff governance and other important areas related to patient care. Furthermore, LPMC received several designations and accreditations throughout 2012 that contributed to the reception of Cigna’s seven designations including two A+ ratings from The Leapfrog Group.
