(Rockwall) July 7, 2013 – Twenty-two-year-old Mandy Adams is preparing to represent her hometown in the Miss Texas USA Pageant.

As Miss Rockwall Texas USA, the adventurous, bubbly and crystal-clear blue eyed beauty will compete August 30-September 1 at the Host Hotel in Houston.

Page Parkes, who is with Mandy’s model agency, sponsors The Miss Texas USA Pageant and recommended Mandy to enter and compete.  Mandy was excited but had some trepidation about accepting such a recommendation.

“Almost every little girl dreams of becoming a princess but never thinks she can achieve it,” Mandy explained, “but some dreams can come true.”

Mandy has lived in Rockwall since the beginning of her fourth grade year. Her parents are Erin and Mitch Adams, and she has an older brother, Vincent.  Mandy attended Dobbs Elementary, Williams Middle School, and graduated from Rockwall High School in 2009.

Mandy, an avid gymnast, competed on the girls gymnastics team during middle school and high school. “The good thing about gymnastics is that it taught me poise, balance, and the importance of being a team player,” Mandy said.

She was also on the Rockwall High Swim Team during her senior year.  While working at the JER Chilton YMCA at Rockwall as a lifeguard, she was approached by the team to join them, which she excelled at and qualified for regional.

Mandy admits to being a bit of a tomboy.

“I love to shop – don’t get me wrong,” she said.  “But I’d rather choose camping, white water rafting, or rock climbing over a trip to the Mall of America!”

One of her favorite adventures was skydiving with a friend.  “It was so much fun that I was both laughing and screaming at the same time,”  Mandy said.

Other daring items on her bucket list include bungee jumping, parasailing, riding in a hot air balloon and cliff jumping.  Her love for adventure comes from her parents who both served in the U.S. Navy where her dad also was one of the Blue Angels for three years.

The family belongs to First Presbyterian Church of Rockwall, where Mandy was an active member of their youth group.  She participated on mission trips and says, “I loved the work, being outside, and tackling a really hard job.  We would get all sweaty and gross, but it was fantastic!”

One of the things Mandy is most looking forward to is meeting the other contestants in the pageant.

“I believe that the Miss Texas USA Pageant will establish some forever friendships,” she said.

In addition to the personal bonds she hopes to gain, there is also an array of prizes, one of them being a college scholarship.  Mandy is currently paying her own way through college.  Ultimately she would like to work in fashion or behind the scenes at fashion shows.

The Miss Texas USA organizers emphasize that the goal of beauty pageants is to motivate young women to strive their best and occupy their time working toward a goal – to provide opportunities, personal training, growth and to promote positive attitudes.

Pageant requirements are an evening gown competition, swimsuit competition, and a personal interview.  Mandy was looking forward to the interview until she viewed some clips of previous interviewers.  “I just don’t want to become a YouTube sensation for all the wrong reasons!” she laughed.

Each contestant must provide for their own wardrobe, which includes a “fire engine red” swimsuit, a formal evening gown, an interview and opening production outfit.  Silver strappy heals and silver bracelets must be worn at the opening production and the swimsuit competition.

“It means so much to me that everyone here in Rockwall is willing to help me achieve this goal,” Mandy said.  Rockwall Dodge, one of Mandy’s main sponsors, will host a Meet & Greet with Miss Rockwall Texas USA from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Saturday, July 13.  All donations are appreciated and are tax deductible for any who would like to help sponsor Mandy to achieve her dream.

The winner of the competition will represent Texas at The Miss USA 2014 Pageant, and could advance to compete in The Miss Universe Pageant competition.
