(ROCKWALL COUNTY, TX – Oct. 28, 2019) Rockwall County Commissioners and area elected officials celebrated the completion of the IH 30/FM 3549 Interchange project last week with a ceremonial ribbon cutting ceremony.
The IH 30/FM 3549 Interchange project began construction on September 6, 2016 at a total cost of $32, 822,301. Texas Department of Transportation awarded the contract to SEMA Construction.
The IH 30.FM 3549 Interchange was funded using Rockwall County Road Bond funds utilizing the state Pass Thru Financing program. Under this program, TxDOT will reimburse Rockwall County $23 million. Rockwall County has partnered with the North Central Texas Council of Governments to further leverage those reimbursements to put $40 to $50 million worth of roadway investment on the ground.
Commissioner Cliff Sevier stated “Rockwall County has benefitted from the partnerships it has developed over the years with TxDOT and our sister cities. When we work together, great things happen.”
The IH 30/FM 3549 Interchange was the last in a series of interchange improvements along IH 30, to include John King, FM 551 and Erby Campbell that paved the way for improvements to IH 30 throughout Rockwall County.
“The forethought of the Commissioners Courts before us and the continued efforts by the current members of Commissioners Court has paid off significantly,” said Judge David Sweet. In August of this year the Texas Transportation Commission announced the funding of improvements to IH 30 within Rockwall County that will add additional general purpose lanes and frontage roads across Lake Ray Hubbard at an estimated cost of $551 million. Construction on the new improvements are scheduled to begin in March 2021 after all of the right of way and utilities are relocated.
In attendance at the ribbon cutting event were representatives from Congressman John Ratcliffe’s office, State Senator Bob Hall’s office and area mayors and councilmembers.
