Rockwall County Jail Expansion and Renovation Project breaks ground

ROCKWALL, TX (July 31, 2020) – Rockwall County Sheriff Harold Eavenson, Sheriff-Elect Terry Garrett, Judge David Sweet, Commissioner Dennis Bailey, Commissioner Sevier, Commissioner Lee Gilbert, Major Todd Calkins, Captain Alexander Gray, along with Representatives from Adolfson & Peterson Construction and Broaddus and Associates shared in a significant groundbreaking ceremony of the Rockwall County Jail expansion and Renovation project yesterday.

This event marks a momentous point over the last nearly four years, in which in-depth studies were conducted, along with consistent planning and programming that centered on corrections and law enforcement principles in the 21st century. With all who has been involved, recognizing the priority of this project by maximizing community safety by confining offenders in a controlled environment, which is safe, humane, cost-efficient, and appropriately secure.

With this renovation, the Rockwall County Detention center will have a maximum capacity of 444 beds. Included will be a functional medical and mental health section that provides a normative-type environment for those in need of such services. Also included are some of the most innovative design elements, such as increased natural lighting, open recreational yards, classrooms designed for vocational and GED studies for inmates, expanded remote visitation capability, increased access to behavioral health therapy, and increased office and staff break areas.
