Triathlon equals economic success for Rockwall

(ROCKWALL – October 29, 2013) The Lifetime Triathlon held at The Harbor October 6 brought an estimated $419,000 to Rockwall – $14,500 of that in hotel/motel tax paid to the city and $7,500 in charitable donations.

The annual event drew 1,247 athletes – 41 were competing professional tri-athletes along with 55 athletes from Rockwall and 60 percent of the athletes from the greater DFW area.

Other highlights of the triathlon included:

  • More than $200,000 in hotel revenue and $85,000 in restaurant revenue
  • Six countries represented includingMexico,United Kingdom,Australia,DenmarkandCzechRepublic
  • 25 states represented

The preliminary event report was presented to the Rockwall City Council by Lifetime Tri:Dallason Oct. 21. A final report is expected before the end of the year.

New events already proposed by triathlon representatives for 2014 are a Lifetime Tri Kids Race and a Lifetime Tri Adult Race.

“The 2013 triathlon was a job well done by our Parks and Recreation Department under the supervision of Andy Hesser. There were very few problems, and it brought a great deal of good attention to our city,” said Assistant City Manager Brad Griggs, noting that the event attracted more than 3,000 spectators.”
