Free Howl-o-Ween event, costume contest at Dallas Animal Services

Adoptions discounted to $30 all weekend

Dallas Animal Services will host a Howl-o-Ween Pet Psychic Fair from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sat., Oct.29.  Sponsored by The Petropolitan, the event will feature a pet costume contest at 1 p.m., dozens of vendors,  children’s activities, free treats for people and dogs, professional pet photos and, of course, a pet psychic.

The Howl-o-Ween Pet Psychic Fair is a partnership of The Petropolitan and Dallas Loves Animals, an initiative launched earlier this by City Councilmember Delia Jasso.  It’s the latest in a series of events that have taken place at locations across Dallas to promote adoptions from the City’s shelter and responsible pet care.

The event will also kick off Dallas Animal Services’ new adoption discount specials, approved recently by the City Council.  All day Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 30, the fee to adopt any animal at the shelter is just $30, which includes the spay or neuter surgery, all vaccinations, microchip and more.  Adopters on Saturday during the event will also receive a free 5”x7” photo of their new family member and other goodies.

Pets in costume will have a chance to win prizes in four categories:  Best Small Dog (under 40 pounds), Best Large Dog (over 40 pounds), Best Couple or Group, and Best of Show.  Three winners will be selected from each category.

The event is free to attend, and there is no charge for the pet costume contest.  Photos will be available for a $5 donation, and the cost for a psychic reading is a $10 donation.
