September 10, 2012 – Lake Pointe Medical Center, based in Rowlett, is celebrating its 25th anniversary of being in operation. LPMC serves the residents of Rockwall, Rowlett, Royse City and the surrounding communities.
Opening its doors on February 11, 1987, LPMC was home to 67 employees and quickly began recruiting local volunteers – including Rockwall resident, Charlene Schwaneke. In fact, Schwaneke has volunteered at LPMC since its opening 25 years ago!
“Although the hospital has changed and expanded over the past 25 years physically, the one thing that has stayed consistent is the family oriented aspect of Lake Pointe,” said Schwaneke. “The hospital’s main focus is patient care and serving the community; and the staff works hard to make volunteers feel like a part of the Lake Pointe family.”
Today, LPMC has grown to employ more than 450 physicians. The hospital provides a wide spectrum of medical services, including an emergency department with Fast Track services, a 14-bed intensive care unit, women’s services, a Level II and Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, interventional cardiology, diagnostic imaging and eight operating rooms.
“The celebration of Lake Pointe’s 25th year indicates the high quality of care and dedication to serving others our medical staff provides,” said J. Eric Evans, chief executive officer of LPMC. “We have grown enormously, sharpened our medical skills and have kept patient care our top priority. We are looking forward to the next 25 years.”
In addition to excellent service, the hospital holds Cigna Global Health Insurance, Center of Excellence designations for laparoscopic gall bladder removal and vaginal delivery, and is designated as a primary stroke center by the Joint Commission. It also has been designated as a Level IV trauma center by the Texas Department of State Health Services. In 2011, LPMC was named one of the nation’s top performers on key quality measures by the Joint Commission, one of only 405 U.S. hospitals and critical access hospitals earning the distinction.
