Lake Pointe campaign encourages women to ‘Picture Yourself Healthy’

Lake Pointe Health Network honors breast cancer awareness month

(Rowlett) October 11, 2012 – The Lake Pointe Health Network wants women to “Picture Yourself Healthy” during Breast Cancer Awareness Month by taking the one picture that could save their life – a mammogram.

“Picture Yourself Healthy is more than just a reminder to get a mammogram,” explains Debbie Moeller, chief operating officer and interim chief executive officer of the LPHN. “It is about women keeping themselves ‘in the picture’ by making their health a top priority.”

According to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer accounts for more than 1 in 4 cancers diagnosed in the United States, making it the most common cancer among women, other than skin cancer. However, early detection through mammogram screenings, increased public awareness of breast cancer and improved treatments have helped reduce the rate of death from breast cancer in the United States. Mammogram screenings can detect breast cancer when it is smaller and more confined to the breast, allowing the cancer to be treated more easily.

To help encourage women to get a mammogram, the LPHN is offering extended hours and weekend hours at most of its diagnostic imaging centers. To schedule your annual mammogram screening in Forney, Greenville, Rockwall or Rowlett, call 972-535-2710 and the LPHN staff will be happy to assist you.

To improve its diagnostic capabilities in the fight against breast cancer, LPHN recently invested in 3D mammography at the Lake Pointe Breast Center in Rockwall. 3D mammography is a revolutionary technology that gives radiologists the ability to identify and characterize individual breast structures without the confusion of overlapping tissue. During a mammography exam, multiple, low-dose images of the breast are acquired at different angles. These images are then used to produce a series of one-millimeter thick slices that can be viewed as a 3D reconstruction of the breast.

There is no guaranteed way to prevent breast cancer, but early detection through regular mammograms is very important.
