Rockwall city election slated for May 11

(January 25, 2013) Five members of the Rockwall City Council up for election this year say they will be on the May 11 ballot.

Council members David White (Place1), Bennie Daniels (Place 3) and Michelle Smith (Place 5) and Mayor Sweet will be candidates for another two-year term.

Council member Jim Pruitt was appointed last fall by the City Council to Place 2 when Mark Russo resigned following his election as Rockwall County Justice of the Peace. Pruitt will run for election to fulfill the remaining one year of that term.

January 30 is the first official day to file to run for office. Filing closes March 1. Informational candidate packets will be available from the city secretary’s office beginning January 21. Packets may also be downloaded on the city secretary’s web page at http://www.rockwall.com/CouncilCandidates/index.asp.  Paperwork must be filed with the City Secretary’s office on the third floor of City Hall,385 S. The city election will be administered by the Rockwall County Elections Administrator (972-204-6200 or go to www.rockwallcountytexas.com/elections).

Early voting is April 29 through May 7 at the Rockwall County Election Office on the downtown square at107 E. Kaufman St.

Voting on May 11 will be from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. at the Utley Middle  School cafeteria.

Applications for ballots by mail must be requested from and mailed to the Rockwall County Elections Office, Attn: Glenda Denton,107 E. Kaufman St. Rockwall TX 75087. The application must be received no later than close of business on April 26.
