Cars for CASA at The Harbor draws thousands, raises thousands

(Rockwall) May 29, 2013 – Cars for CASA organizers report that the eighth annual car, truck and motorcycle show held May 19 at The Harbor in Rockwall was another “overwhelming success,” drawing about 300 show vehicles and more than 3,000 spectators.

The benefit event was coordinated by the Board of the Metro East Division of The Dallas Builders Association, along with  Lone Star CASA Board members and various community volunteers.

There was a wide variety of cars and motorcycles on hand ranging from the classics (’55 Chevys, Dodge Chargers and vintage Corvettes) to off-the-chart Street Rods and even late model exotics such as Ferraris and Bentleys.

The 2013 event raised in excess of $44,000 and increased awareness for Lone Star CASA and the work that they do in the community.  Cumulatively, Cars for CASA has raised more than $184,000 for Lone Star CASA.  Next year’s fundraising goal is $50,000.

Looking ahead, the 2014 Cars for CASA event will be May 18 at The Harbor. For more information, visit lonestarcasa.org.

ABOUT CASA

A trained Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) is appointed to the case by a judge when a child is removed from his or her home and placed in foster care.  CASA volunteers monitor the child’s well being in foster care, advocate for the child within the court system, and help ensure that the child receives the services he or she needs.
