(Rockwall) August 27, 2013 – Many exciting developments are taking place at the JER Chilton YMCA at Rockwall, and among them is the hiring of Membership and Wellness Director, Sharyn Hightower.
Sharyn is looking forward to beginning her new role on Sept. 30th, but she is definitely no stranger to the Y. She has been with the Palestine YMCA since 2002, serving as Wellness Director for the past eight of those 11 years. For the past 20 years, she’s been teaching group exercise classes and personal training, starting at the YMCA in Waxahachie.
“I enjoy traveling to various locations to keep my certifications current and relevant. My ‘work’ passion is health, and sharing with others how to stay healthy in spirit, mind and body,” Sharyn said. “I am very grateful for having the opportunity to work with a cause-driven organization like the YMCA.”
She added that she believes having a Y in the community makes it better.
“I love people of all ages, I enjoy making new friends, and I’m very eager to get to know all about Rockwall,” Sharyn said.
Sharyn has four children, two of which have served the military in Iraq. Her youngest is 15, an honor student, and active in every possible sport. Sharyn teaches piano lessons in the evenings, and enjoys spending time with her two grandchildren, playing tennis, and basically doing anything active.
Before spending 11 years in Palestine, Sharyn spent a year in Colorado, six years in the Rio Grande Valley, and 12 in Waxahachie. She was raised in Amarillo, where many of her family members still reside.
