(ROCKWALL, TX – April 9, 2018) Dobbs Elementary and Reinhardt Elementary will be neighbors during the 2018-2019 school year. This will be a temporary accommodation as Dobbs moves into their new building and Reinhardt relocates to the former Dobbs facility while a new school is built at the current site.
After hearing from parents, staff and the community last fall, the district developed a plan to help Dobbs and Reinhardt run as smoothly as possible next year.
A traffic pattern map, developed to keep traffic separated between the two schools during drop-off and pick-up times, can be viewed here. To additionally alleviate traffic congestion, both campuses will have a slightly staggered school day schedule in 2018-2019.
Howard Dobbs Elementary School
- New School Day Time – 8:15 am to 3:15 pm (15 minutes later than 17-18 school year)
- Head Start School Day – 8:00 am to 2:00 pm (same as 17-18 school year)
Virginia Reinhardt Elementary School
- New School Day Time – 7:45 am to 2:45 pm (15 minutes earlier than 17-18 school year)
A further concern regarding the trees at the Dobbs site was raised during the information meetings. This traffic pattern plan does not disturb the current trees.
Additionally, the district will improve the site with temporary barriers to direct traffic flow, install signage, extend the loading zone and provide a possible covered walkway in the front drive of the existing Dobbs, repaint parking lot striping and utilize additional crossing guards from “former” Reinhardt Elementary to direct on-site traffic. A new parking area for the existing Dobbs will be constructed to accommodate an additional 45 vehicles. In the coming weeks, the district will evaluate options of utilizing Rockwall Police Department to conduct traffic control on adjacent streets.
This information can be found on a dedicated webpage here for Dobbs and here for Reinhardt.
