(ROCKWALL, TX – March 1, 2019) Rep. John Ratcliffe (R-Texas) visited Royse City Middle School today for a question and answer session with the eighth grade class about the functions of the federal government and his experiences as the U.S. Representative for the 4th Congressional District of Texas.
About 200 students gathered for an open discussion with Ratcliffe about how the politics of Washington ties in with their Pre-AP U.S. History curriculum and impacts their lives on a daily basis.
“One of my favorite parts of my job as a U.S. Congressman is the opportunity I get to engage with young folks across the 18 counties I represent who will one day be the leaders of our country,” Ratcliffe said.
“The students at Royse City Middle School demonstrated an impressive level of interest in the politics and policies that are impacting their lives, and I was truly inspired by their desire to learn more about how they can become civically engaged in their community.”
During his visit, Ratcliffe presented a flag flown over the U.S. Capitol to Royse City Middle School Principal Angelee Morales, which will be displayed at the school.
Morales thanked Ratcliffe for his visit to the school on behalf of the entire faculty, staff and student body.
“We are so thankful to Rep. Ratcliffe for taking time to visit with our history students,” Morales said.
“We know that our schools are filled with future leaders and it may be a visit like this that inspires a young person to serve their community later in life.”
