Dalton Tasset, Rockwall ISD grad and youngest candidate, announces run for school board, Place 2

ROCKWALL, TX – March 1, 2021 – Rockwall ISD graduate Dalton Tasset has announced his run for RISD Board of Trustees, Place 2.

“I offer something totally different. Being a recent student from RISD, I understand the challenges that our students and teachers are faced with each day. I believe this perspective would benefit our school board. We have an amazing school district but I would like to make it even better. I will advocate for students with 504 accommodations and passionately protect our Texas values. I am someone that will not waiver or give up and will ask the tough questions needed to put our students and teachers first!” said Tasset.

“I have been inspired by 1 Timothy 4:12 which states: “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.” This is the aim for myself and the example I would like to demonstrate to our students. Hopefully inspiring future leaders that our nation so desperately needs.

“Just as our district highlights the outstanding athlete of the week, I want us to highlight a student each week that is giving back to the community to encourage our youth to be selfless. If elected, I would be the youngest member on the board which also serves as an encouragement for our students to show that no matter your age or background, you can use your voice to impact your community for the better.

“I attended Cullins Lake Pointe Elementary, Amy Parks Elementary, Cain Middle School and Heath High School. I am a product of our education system and offer first hand knowledge that’s not directly represented on the board. I will fight against federal overreach that negatively targets our students, teachers and the convictions of our community. One area that I also have a huge passion for is students with 504 accommodations and special needs. I have been an advocate for students with special needs since the first grade when I saw a classmate bullied because of his differences. This is personal to me because I have dyslexia and needed certain accommodations in our schools. I know what it’s like to not fit in. I learned to be my own advocate in order to make education work for me and as a board member, I will advocate for students with special needs that struggled like me. RISD is one of the best in Texas and I want to help lead our district to new heights and create an even more dynamic school district.
