June 13, 2012 – Rockwall Pets, a local non-profit working to make all of Rockwall County a no-kill zone, has received an ASPCA Staffers’ Choice grant from the ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®). Ms. Pune Dracker, the director of content and editorial services for the ASPCA, chose Rockwall Pets for the $500 grant.
“I first ‘met’ Rockwall Pets by following their promotional materials and videos of animals for adoption,” said Dracker. “I reached out to them to ask if I could share some of their tips for creating videos, and they were very generous with their knowledge. This is my way of saying thanks to them for their positive, open hearts and the inspiring work they are doing as volunteers to save animals.”
The directors of Rockwall Pets, located northeast of Dallas, Texas, expressed their pride that the ASPCA grant was selected personally by Ms. Dracker, who oversees the creation of content for – and manages several social media channels for – ASPCA Pro. “Her work for the ASPCA is unmatched, and I’m a huge fan of her work on the ‘Shelter’s Edge’ blog on ASPCAPro,” said Michael Kitkoski of Rockwall Pets.
Rockwall Pets rescues at-risk animals from area shelters for a second chance at adoption.
The non-profit also rehabilitates ill and injured shelter pets and provides obedience training for dogs. Its ultimate goal is to help make Texas one of the first no-kill states in America.
Rockwall Pets was largely responsible for Rockwall’s success in achieving no-kill status during the past year. The Rockwall shelter has had 96 percent or better live outcomes during the past eight months.
Founded in 1866, the ASPCA serves as the nation’s leading voice for animal welfare. Its Staffers’ Choice grant program was established in 2011 to allow recipients of the APSCA’s various Employee Recognition Awards to select an animal shelter to receive a grant in their honor. The ASPCA gives nearly $50,000 each year to shelters through its Staffers’ Choice program.
Pune Dracker has written and edited thousands of animal-related articles for adults and children. She launched ASPCA Animaland, the organization’s award-winning children’s website, as well as the ASPCA’s text messaging program. Her work also helped grow the ASPCA’s weekly News Alert to over a million subscribers.
