(ROCKWALL, TX – Jan. 26, 2017) Rockwall is preparing to gather this weekend to Go Outside and Play! The City of Rockwall will officially unveil The Park at Stone Creek, located at 200 Featherstone Drive within the Stone Creek neighborhood. The ceremony is set to take place this Saturday, January 28 at 11 a.m. The event is scheduled to be well-attended by local dignitaries to help inaugurate the newest addition to the Rockwall Parks and Recreation Department’s park system.
Rockwall Mayor Jim Pruitt will lead the outdoor ceremony, and Rockwall City Councilmembers and Park Board Members are slated to be in attendance as well. Also scheduled to be on-hand for the grand opening will be State Representative Justin Holland, and representatives from State Senator Bob Hall’s office, Congressman John Ratcliffe’s office and the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department.
The Park at Stone Creek includes a playground and pavilion, 1 acre pond, 1/3 mile loop trail with connections and rest stop, natural open spaces, and a native meadow for a butterfly habitat.
In accordance with Rockwall’s mandatory park land dedication ordinance, the developer donated nearly 12 acres of land valued at $385,000, and contributed additional equipment fees totaling $200,000 to help develop the park. The City also received a $400,000 grant from the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department to help fund the development of what is sure to become one of Rockwall’s premier parks. Although the total development cost for The Park at Stone Creek is more than $1 million, the amenity is provided at no cost to taxpayers. The Stone Creek grand opening ceremony is free of charge and the public is invited to attend.
