(Grapevine) Join the festivities as Grapevine celebrates the 10th Anniversary of the Restoration of the Palace Arts Center. The celebration begins at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18.
Located on Main Street in Historic Downtown Grapevine, the Palace Arts Center is home to the Palace Theatre and the Lancaster Theatre. The Palace Theatre is the home to the Grapevine Opry.
The 10th Anniversary of the Restoration event will include VIP recognitions; the University of North Texas Jazz Band; Grapevine’s Opry’s Rocky Gribble; showing of the 1940s classic movie The Great McGinty and refreshments. The event is open to the public. Tickets are $25 per person. Individual movie tickets will be available at the box office starting at 6:30 p.m.
The Palace Theatre opened as a movie cinema in 1940 and quickly became one of the region’s top attractions. But more than 50 years later, facing extinction and bankruptcy, demolition loomed as the likely option. The Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau, Yellow Rose Productions and the Grapevine Heritage Foundation rescued the Art Moderne building and the Buckner Grocery Store next door.
A total restoration, completed in 2001, produced the Palace Arts Center, consisting of the 432-seat Palace Theatre and the Lancaster Theatre, a meeting and banquet facility. The restored Palace Theatre has hosted the Fort Worth Symphony, the Black Mambazo Show, Redneck Tenors, children’s entertainment, Oh Look! Theatre, Blue Shoe and other notable events. A centerpiece of activity in the City of Grapevine, the Palace Arts Center has also hosted a multitude of convention and meetings groups, weddings, private parties and special events since the restoration.
