(ROWLETT-February 10, 2013) Lake Pointe Medical Center, based in Rowlett, recently received the 2013 Founders Award from The Bridge Breast Network for its efforts in helping uninsured women fight breast cancer. The two major criteria used to select the finalists and winner include, the number of clients served and the amount of services donated within the year.

Since March 2011, LPMC has partnered with The Bridge Breast Network to ensure women without insurance have access to early detection services for breast cancer. In less than 12 months, LPMC accepted 180 referrals from The Bridge Breast Network. As a result, seven women who had not had a mammogram in more than two years found their breast cancer and were able to receive treatment.

Each year The Bridge Breast Network presents the Founders Award to an organization or individual whose work exemplifies the mission and vision of the program and its founders. The mission is to save lives by providing access to diagnostic and treatment services for breast cancer to low income, uninsured and underinsured individuals.  The vision is that no one with breast health issues should go without care due to a lack of insurance and/or the financial resources to pay.
