(Dallas) June 3, 2012 – Blessings and Bling author, pastor and breast cancer survivor, Dr. Sheron C. Patterson, is partnering with the Lovers Lane United Methodist Church Foundation and the McCormick / Shipp Lectures to invite all DFW breast cancer survivors, their families and friends, to an afternoon of inspiration and hope called Bring Your Bling.
This complimentary lecture and book signing will be held on Sunday, June 10, starting at 4 p.m. (doors open at 3) in the Sanctuary at Lovers Lane United Methodist Church, 9200 Inwood Road, Dallas, 75220.
Representatives from Methodist Health System will host an educational booth during the event.
Dr. Patterson will share her story of diagnosis, treatment and recovery. All lecture guests are invited to wear their bling: anything that sparkles, shines and celebrates the survival of breast cancer, i.e., rhinestones, T-shirts, bracelets, caps, tiaras, etc. Men are strongly encouraged to attend to support the women in their lives.
Dr. Patterson wrote the book on bling – literally. Her recently released book, The Blessings and Bling: How Faith and Fashion Helped Me Survive Breast Cancer chronicles her journey through breast cancer with an accent on fashion and fun. For each book sold, $1 goes toward funding to help low-income and no-income women receive free mammograms.
Dr. Patterson recently reached the highly coveted five-year survival period of breast cancer and wants to celebrate her
accomplishment and help others simultaneously.
“This event will celebrate survivors and encourage them to find joy in life. Bling, whether it is a T-shirt or a tiara, is one way we can celebrate our survival. It’s fun, it’s fashion, and it’s feisty. You have to be feisty and tenacious to beat cancer.”
Bring Your Bling also will launch Dr. Patterson’s fund raising campaign, “A Year of Living and Giving,” to raise $200,000
in cooperation with Methodist Health System located at 1441 N. Beckley Avenue. The funding will enable the hospital’s
mobile mammography units to provide services to women of low-income and no-income in South Dallas.
Lovers Lane United Methodist Church Senior Pastor, Dr. Stan Copeland, adds, “Dr. Sheron Patterson is a highly effective communicator and inspirational author. As a preacher, she powerfully communicates the good news of the Christian faith; as a breast cancer survivor, she tells her story and wants us to share it with everyone we know, particularly those who have been impacted by breast cancer. Blessings and Bling is the name of her story and countless people will be blessed to read her book and hear her journey as she shares it on June 10th. Lovers Lane United Methodist Church is honored to feature Dr. Patterson as our McCormick / Shipp Lecturer and partner with Methodist Health Care in inviting the entire Metroplex to join us. I’m bringing my bling!”
