(ROCKWALL, TX — June 27, 2018) In the grandstands of the parade deck, the wind ripped through us; it was freezing, one of the coldest days ever at Parris Island, South Carolina. We shivered, immersed in U.S. Marine culture, waiting for our son’s platoon to march across. It was the glorious end to a long […]
“He sent forth his word and healed them…” –Psalm 107:20 (ROCKWALL, TX — June 27, 2018) I was growing discouraged about the welfare of my friend Luann. For several years I’d been playing the loyal companion “Sam” to her beleaguered “Frodo.” She had the challenging lead role of trudging up her own Mount Doom in […]

(ROCKWALL, TX — May21, 2018) You either watched every minute of the wedding or you weren’t the slightest bit interested. Since I’m an anglophile, love Downtown Abbey, Doc Martin, Acorn TV & Call the Midwife, I was up Saturday morning at 6 a.m. watching THE WHOLE THING. I still can’t get over the fact that […]
(ROCKWALL, TX — May 14, 2018) My Mother doesn’t really know it’s Mother’s Day. I visited her today after lunch. I helped her brush her teeth and opened a card from a dear friend who used to sit with her while we attended church each Sunday. Mother doesn’t remember her either. She does remember how […]
